Setup a Ruby 1.9.3 RVM Environment in OSX 10.10 Yosemite

Need to install Ruby 1.9.3 with RVM on Mac OSX? Here is a very clean and simple procedure to get it working using HomeBrew.

Before we start

Make sure you install the following:

Installing Brew and RVM

Run the following commands from your OSX terminal

Brew update
Brew install wget curl
curl -L | bash -s stable

GCC48 Install

brew install homebrew/versions/gcc48

Installing Ruby 1.9.3 using RVM

rvm pkg install readline
rvm install 1.9.3 --with-readline-dir=${HOME:-~}/.rvm/usr
rvm use 1.9.3 --default

Now test your version of Ruby

Ruby -v

Reboot and you’re done!
